Golfing At Gleneagles

A mere five minutes from the Cairn is the home of Scottish golfing, and arguably the top golfing destination in Scotland. Gleneagles has served as the venue for several major golf tournaments, including the Ryder Cup in 2014. In 2019 the biggest event in women’s golfing saw Gleneagles play host to the Solheim Cup.

The Courses:
Gleneagles has more than enough golfing options to satisfy even the most ardent golfing enthusiasts. There are four separate courses, with a total of 63 holes including two 19th holes.

The PGA Centenary Course – this is the course that challenges even the professionals. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, it aims to be within the ability of any golfer, while still offering a challenge to experts. One of the biggest challenges is avoiding the distractions of the glorious scenery that surrounds the course.

The Queen’s Course – a great course to play if you want to walk in the footsteps of some of the biggest names in golf and entertainment. This stunning course had attracted the likes of Greg Norman, Tom Watson, Sean Connery and Bing Crosby.

The King’s Course – this eighteen hole course has been open since 1919. It is a real test of your ability to select the right club, with each approach being notoriously difficult to judge. Almost as enjoyable as the golfing are the quintessentially Scottish names of each hole.

The PGA National Academy Course – also known as the ‘wee course’ this nine-hole course is a great venue for beginners to learn the game and for experienced golfers to polish their skills.

The PGA National Golf Academy – the golf academy runs demonstration days, golf classes and junior golf camps. There is also a driving range if you want to let off some steam. Don’t forget to stop in at the academy shop to check out the wide range of equipment and accessories.

Planning A Visit

The courses are open all year round, and you don’t need to have a handicap certificate to play. You don’t need to worry about having your own clubs as you can hire high-quality clubs at the course.
