About 20 minutes north of the Cairn you can find the world-famous Glenturret Distillery. This is the oldest working distillery in Scotland. They have been hand-making whisky at this site since 1775. Until recently, this was the home of Famous Grouse whisky. While the distillery has changed hands, the tour is still the same award-winning experience and is well worth a visit. Where else will you find a shop that lets you bottle your own whisky?

TOURS
There is a range of tours available, so it’s worth considering your options before you go. The standard tour takes about an hour and includes two drams of whisky to try. Fear not if you are the designated driver, as Glenturret has not forgotten you. The drivers are given a dram to take away, so that they don’t have to miss out on sampling the whisky. Under 18’s aren’t forgotten either, they are offered a non-alcoholic alternative so that no-one is left out.

If you are a shutterbug and want to capture every moment of your experience on camera, then there is a tour, especially for you where you are allowed to take photos as part of the tour. Perhaps you have a bit of a sweet tooth. In which case the fudge fusion may be the choice for you. As part of this tour, you can sample local fudges that have been paired with the whisky and even take a gift box home with you at the end.

EATING AT THE DISTILLERY
Even if you aren’t that interested in whisky, you can still visit the distillery to sample the food. The lunches and afternoon teas are all made from locally sourced produce and are some of the finest foods in Scotland.
